OSCARS favourite Cate Blanchett has been invited to film a cameo in the Australian episode of Modern Family, which rolled into action in Sydney this week.
The Blue Jasmine star was approached to join the US comedy smash during its working holiday Down Under, with executive producer Steven Levitan confirming talks were continuing in a bid to fit a “cameo of Cate” into her busy schedule.
Seated beside each other on the 14-hour flight from Los Angeles to Sydney last week, Levitan said he put his prime position to good use and pleaded the show’s case. “The truth is we did see if she was available … ‘well, since we’re all here, wouldn’t that be nice?’” Levitan told News Corp.
“She has already come and gone to England since we’ve been here, poor thing is travelling. So it doesn’t seem like that will work out but you never know. We’ve got some crazy people to do things for us in the past just by asking, but we thought maybe a quick cameo of Cate … we’re big fans of hers. She’s got a few things on her plate, we understand, but we still love her.”
Blanchett would join a list of local castings, including former Rescue Special Opsstar Peter Phelps and Flight Of The Conchords funnyman Rhys Darby, who filmed his small role with Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson along Finger Wharf and Macquarie Street on Wednesday.
