Baltasar Kormakur is in negotiations to direct Cascade, a disaster thriller at Twentieth Century Fox to which Cate Blanchett is attached to star.
Ridley Scott and Steve Zaillian are producing the project, which will be a loose remake of 2003 BBC pseudo-documentaryThe Day Britain Stopped. Film Rites’Garrett Basch is exec producing.
Cascade is set after an oil tanker collision in the Persian Gulf sets off an international crisis. Blanchett is the tanker’s captain who must find a way to prove that she did not commit a terrorist act.
Scott and Imitation Game helmer Morten Tyldum were previously involved with the project.
Kormakur is the Icelandic director who directed the Mark Wahlberg action thriller Contraband and the Wahlberg-Denzel Washington action movie 2 Guns.
He is in post on Everest, a true-life drama centering on an ill-fated climbing destination whose all-star cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, and Kiera Knightley among others.
