AUSTRALIAN actor Cate Blanchett has spoken about how her children force her to be “constantlyconfronted with failures”. However despite that, she wouldn’t change a thing.
The mother-of-four, who this month welcomed her adopted daughter, Edith Vivian Patricia Upton, into the family, sat down with New York based, Australian human rights lawyer turned author Anna Funder for the latest edition ofVogue Australia.
Blanchett spoke candidly about her three sons — Dashiell, 13, Roman, 10, and Ignatius, 6 — and the impact they have made on her life.
“Children certainly teach one about compromise,” Blanchett told Vogue, which is on sale tomorrow.
“I think before having children the idea of compromise rubbed shoulders with weakness or deception in some way.
“Children are spirited, passionate, political, demanding. They are also heartbreaking. They constantly extend parents and so parents are constantly confronted with failures, don’t you think?
“I’d rather presently live life this way than not.”
Blanchett, known for her impeccable fashion sense, also had some words of advice for her 20-year-old self.
“Listen: Don’t wear tie-dye. Ever.”
